Overview
Unico van Wassenaer, whose name was lent to one of the wards in the former military hospital, was a retired land commander, a composer, and a musician, who published under a pen name. Van Wassenaer lent structure to the “Balije”. He was a strict task master, under whose watch the use of the ‘Hotel of the Order’ for feasts, balls, and concerts was banned. The room features a remarkable, 14th century arch construction of Scandinavian oak dating 1347.
